Professional Service Award

Eligibility and Award Information

Who: Any individual in the museum field employed by or retired from a South Carolina museum and who has been in the field for at least five years.

Why: The recipient must have distinguished herself or himself in the museum field and must have professionally advanced the role of museums or the South Carolina Federation of Museums.

How Many: May be presented annually to one individual. This award may not be awarded each year.

Judging Criteria: The nominee must be an individual member, be affiliated with, or be retired from an institutional member of the South Carolina Federation of Museums. Priority will be given to museum professionals whose work and contributions have statewide impact and have a depth of experience with museums in South Carolina.

Eligibility: Nominees for the Professional Service Award must be professional members of SCFM or employees or retirees of an institutional member of SCFM.

Nomination Procedures:  Nominations will be evaluated solely on the materials provided. Applicants are encouraged to submit as much relevant material as possible. 

A nomination package for the Professional Service Award should include the awards nomination form and the following:

  • -Years of service in museum profession (minimum of five) and all positions held in museums
  • -Service to SC museums and involvement in SCFM and other professional organizations
  • -Minimum of two letters of support from professional peers that represent a cross section of the South Carolina museum community
